Nice fella. Ok, salty and bitter as all get out, but funny nonetheless. I love his early material and really enjoyed the HBO special a few months ago.
I met him in the fall of 1996, when he was especially salty and bitter (his first wife had become ill). It was in Boston and it was a truley unique experience – he just railed against everything and had lost some of the wit that we had all come to love.
The meeting was real brief, he knew that I was there from the radio station, chaperoning listeners. I don’t remember what was said, but I think it had something to do with being on air and getting girl. He was at least impressed that I wasn’t playing top 40, and then told me that he used to work in radio in Boston.
I faithfully watched all the HBO specials since I had HBO and thought that in the last 10 years he had done some really great bits. His post 9/11 show was incredible.
