Typical NYC Experience

Yesterday I was on the 6 train headed downtown to a meeting with one of my favorite content partners.  I was in my own world, listening to a blues playlist I’d made and mentally preparing for the meeting.

I tend to stand on the trains, since I sit most of the day.  Standing on the train, means I do a shuffle at each stop, so I don’t get in anyone’s way.  At one stop, I moved out of the way for a very nice man, who smiled thanks as I moved to the left. I nodded and then a spark of recognition flashed through me.  I knew this person, and wanted to look up to confirm.  It was then that an other genetic action kicks in – don’t look up.  See this only happens if you are from either, NYC (area), LA or Nashville: you know it’s a celebrity and you don’t gawk.

The Dead Play Jersey

I had so much fun putting together an imaginary concert for Hoboken, that my Garden State pride was bursting! While listening to The Dead perform Tennessee Jed on that collection, I decided to cull the archives for some special Jersey Gems of Grateful Dead and The Dead.

This collection spans 32 years, starting with a nugget from the Stanley Theater in Jersey City in September ‘72, staying in southern Hudson County for a August ‘74 show. I went north to Capitol Theater in Passaic for June ‘76 track and then back to JC for September ‘77. It’s back to Passaic for a sweet China/Rider from from April Fools Day, 1980. I then go the swamps of the Meadowlands, for an August ‘89 show (one of my favs!). I fast foreward in time to The Dead Era for three Holmdel shows, one in June ‘03 and two in August ‘04.

This is Rightish Brain Records RBR#11, released on December 31, 2005. What a way to end the year!

Hoboken: The Concert For No Reason

We all love live music. This collection, imagines what would happen if I was able to pull of an all-star concert at some yet to be named venue.

For this show, I “assembled” Adam Sandler, Scissor Sisters, Minnie Driver, Conjure One, Neko Case, BNL, R.E.M., Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Joan Osborne, Blondie, The Black Crowes, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, The Dead and a great finale from Joe Cocker!
