This past weekend, I was in full Advent mode, in that I was physically preparing my place for Christmas.  I’m sure the spiritual stuff will come as well, usualy at Midnight Mass.

The tree is up, the lights are lit and I’ve wired the rest of the abode for sound.  Now, over the years, I have managed to collect just about 11 hours of Christmas music (not counting 48 hours of a very cool radio program). Over the last 48 hours, I listened to just about all of it and therefore am in a great mood today. But not that annoying mood where I’ll come to work in a Christmas sweater and tell people to cheer up. I do work in Manhattan, after all and have my reputation to consider. (more…)

This Song Has Been Going ‘Round In My Head…

… the last few days. Change the city, but I completly get this now, more than I did when I first heard Sheryl Crow do it first:

Mississippi written by Bob Dylan

Every step of the way we walk the line
Your days are numbered, so are mine
Time is pilin’ up, we struggle and we scrape
We’re all boxed in, nowhere to escape

City’s just a jungle, more games to play
Trapped in the heart of it, trying to get away
I was raised in the country,
I been workin’ in the town?I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down

I Can’t Stop Playing This Album…

I picked up the debut album by The Dead Weather up a few days after it was released at the Third Man Record temp store in Manhattan. The incredible lineup of Jack Lawrence, Dean Fertita, Jack White and Alison Mosshart create a sound that is perfect for this odd summer.

So, on a day when the media showed us perp walks and everyone made fun of NJ and while I still track the album and make my notes for a proper review, I invite you to watch the clip for “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” directed by Jonathan Glazer. Plainly put, it f**king rocks. So, turn it up and get out of your head for a while.

Thank you to the band for enabling embeds.
